Welcome, Steph! Tell us a bit about yourself, and where you're based.

Hi, I’m Steph — Cobalt’s Recruitment Coordinator. I’m originally from Cape Town, South Africa. I moved to Germany in September 2020 and started at Cobalt in October. Over the past 3 years, I have focused on building my career in the fast-paced tech startup industry. From launching my recruitment career in travel-tech and developing my People Ops skills further at a fintech, I’ve had the opportunity to work with super diverse teams, across multiple countries and support rapidly scaling startups growing from 50 to 350 employees.

Can you talk about what you do here at Cobalt?

As Cobalt’s Recruitment Coordinator I support our Talent Manager, Patrick, and our hiring teams with optimizing recruitment processes. I support the full candidate journey from attracting candidates using sourcing and employer branding initiatives, to scheduling interviews across multiple departments and timezones all the way through to contract creation and onboarding. I am a key point of contact for candidates and hiring teams, offering guidance during the CET timezone, working asynchronously with Patrick, who is based in the US, and with the People Ops team, supporting projects and optimising people processes. I’m also incredibly passionate about D&I and I’m working with Cobalt’s D&I resource groups to develop a full D&I strategy, roll out training and facilitate discussions.

How will candidates and hiring teams feel the impact of the work you're doing?

We’re currently scaling crazy fast! Over the past year the team has doubled in size and we’re not stopping there. With massive growth comes an increased need for hiring teams to get the support they need to attract and hire the best talent, and for candidates to get the guidance to put their best foot forward — that’s where I come in. Recruitment at a unique and quirky startup like Cobalt is not just about filling seats. It’s about finding that ideal match that enhances our eccentric, inclusive and ambitious culture.

What attracted you to the role? What are you most excited about over the next 6-12 months?

With each career move I make, I try to find a company whose values align closely with my own and whose people I can connect with and can see myself learning from and growing with. Having had the opportunity to work across the people function in my former roles, I felt the Recruitment Coordinator role at Cobalt was the ideal opportunity to dive head-first into the quirky world of cybersecurity. Not only that, but to also gain exposure to the European & US market and work with exceptional people that execute at speed, are humble learners, lead with grit, and truly embody the respect, inclusion and collaboration that makes us one Cobalt.

What's your ideal superpower?

Being a people person that studied social work & psychology, I’d have to say telepathy and influence — the ability to understand, empathize and acknowledge someone’s thoughts and feelings, then guide them in making the best decisions, like joining Cobalt!
